The sugar question is being debated in the Assembly, on the motion for the establishment -of a State refinery and an amednment that the industry be placed on a sound basis by the continuance of the present Kanaka Labour- - ers Act for a further ten years. Mr Philp, who raised the .ire of the Queensland representatives in the Federal .Parliament by writing to the President of the Senate giving Ms views on the Federal Bill, said it wquld ' be a. bad day if the States could not approach both Federal Houses by letter. One member stated that the Premier merely gave his views of the Government, which did not represent the views of the members of the State Parliament.
