SACRED CONCERT BT MISS KATE NICHOLLS .AT THE OPEBA HOUSE, SUNDAY, 16th JUNE.
This is announced iv oar advertising columns, the idea of a popular concert to-night, previously announced, having been abandaned, owing to other fixtures in the "place, social and otherwise, resultimg in engagements on the part of Jocal performers who would otherwise have assisted. Both Miss Nicholls and Miss Tansley are heard tto great advantage in sacred music, and they will be supported by Messrs Blennerhassett, Boyd, Hatherly, Muir, and "Swan, all well-known, locally, also by Mr Geo. Hall, , the popular Christchnrch baritone. Miss Nicholls will sing "Oh, Divine Redeemer!' (Gounod) and' "The Soul's Awakening" (Gtfunod);- Miss Tansley "Or» Pro Nobis" and Liddle's "Abide With Me," while other vocal items include such favourites as "Calvary," "Thou Art Passing Hence, my Brother," "The First Palm Sunday," "Naiareth," etc. Miss Nicholls will also appear as a pianoforte soloist, contributing Chopin's "Marche Funebre"; Messrs Boyd and Swan each, give appropriate recitations, and Mr Hatherly a violin solo, "Meditation" (Wilson). Altogether, a really good programme has been provided, and as the time for the commencement of the concert is' fixed for 8.30 p.m., when the various church services will be completed, we look to see an overflowing- house. -
