ADELPHI DRAMATIC COMPANY.
"Held by the Enemy" will be repeated again to-night at tho Oddfellows' Hall by tho Adelphi Dramatic Company, and, judging by tho reception accorded this fine spectacular diama, another largo house should wit> ness tho performance. Mr Humphries will Bing "When we've got the Ships" and "Tho Grand Old Flag," and Mr Haipur will be heard in his amusing "tnrns." Tho management inform us that although this is their fifth week in Wanganui, bus. ness last Wednesday evening showed a decided improvement on their previous houses — a fact that speaks well for the genuineness of tho company.
Tho •Wanganui Lawn Tennis Club's season will be opened to-morrow afternoon, when tea will bo provided by Mrs Barnicoat.
Should the weather keep fine, there will bo play en the local bowling green to-morrow Members of tho W.B.C. are requested to noto that if the flag is flown it will be an indication of play.
A meeting of tho Wanganui Women's Political League will be held this evening at 8 o'clock in the Borough Council Chambers. The subject for discussion will be, "Cottage Homes and Industrial Schools." Women aro cordially invited.
At a meeting of the Friendly Socictios' Committee last evening it -was decided to hold the usual monster picnic and sports at Matarawa on Now Year's Day. Bros. Purnell, Copeland, and B. R. Price were appointed a programnlo committee and Bro. Hooper sports secretary.
Tho farewell complimentary benefit tendered to Mr Charles Naylor by the leading professional artistes of Wanganui took place in the Opera House last night, when, notwithstanding the unfortunate elements, there was a largo assemblage in the Opera House. A double bill wan given by members of tho Wanganui Syndicate Goncert Company and the Adelphi Dramatic Company, and every item "was well received, in many instances recalls being demanded. During an interval, Mr Naylor took occasion to sincerely thank those present for their patronage, and aIEO those who had contributed so materially towards the entertainment, concluding with the hope that it would not be long ere he, renewed pleasurable associations with tho Wanganui playgoing public.
