STEADILY ADVANCING. BOEES BUSY ENTRENCHING AND FORTIFYING. SPIEITED APPEAL BY BULLEE TO HIS MEN. LADYSMITH TO BE BELIEVED AND NO TURNING BACK. TROOPS WARNED TO BEWABE OF BOEE TREACHERY. Received January 20, 10.15 a.m. LONDON, January 19. Lord Roberta has cabled that General Warren, who is advancing northwards from Trichard's Drift, in tho direction of Spionkop and Dewdrop, hopes to turn a strongly entrenched Boer position situated five miles from his right. [Dcwdrop ia between five and ten miles west of Ladysmith.] In reference to Ihe passage of the Tugela, General Buller cabled that General Warren's force crossed this river by moans of a pontoon, 85 yards long. He hopes Warren will havo advanced &\ c wiles towards the enemy's position by the evening ot Thursday.' The Boors ara bi.sily engaged entrenching and otherwise fortifying their pcEitions to resist the British advanoo. General Buller made a spirited appeal to the men of his reliof column. He declared it was mtondpd to relieve Ladysmith and there would bo no turning back. At the same time he warned the troops to beware of the Boer's treachery, especially the abuse of the white flag. A Inter report states that the British crossed the river practically without opposition.
