ATTEMPT TO TIRE TROOPSHIP MAORI KING.

PROBABLE ARREST OF TWO FOREIGNERS. OTHER TROOPSHIPS GUARDED. Received aJnuary 13, at 6.30 p.m. BRISBANE, January 13. A sensational attempt was made to act fire to tho troopship Maori King, at the South Brisbane wharf. The fire was discovered on the edge of a coal bunker, a little distance from which was found a drum full of tar, with two holes perforated in tho bottom, allowing the tar to ooze out in the direction of the coal. The fire was quickly extinguished. Since tho vessel arrived a detective has been watching, as two or throe foreigners wore seen, about the vessel Beveral times. It is rumoured that two arrests will be made before the vessel sails. January 14. Tlio second contingent embarked on the Maori King yesterday afternoon. Tha Lieutonant-QovDrnor farewelled them in a patriotic speech. There was a repetition of the enthusiasm at the first contingent's departure, thousands crowding the streets and wharf. Feeling ran high over tho attempt to burn the troopship. SYDNIiY, January 14. In view of tho BVisbano attempts, special precautions are being taken to guard tho troop ships at Sydney. It is understood the polico havo several suspicious foreigners under surveillance.
