LORD RANFURLY INTERVIEWED.

NO DOUBT AS TO THE FINAL RESULT OF THE WAR.

<Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, December 15. Interviewed by the Post, Lord _ Kan-; furly said that everywhere ho went in the Australasiau colonies ho found an intenso feeling of loyalty to tho Mother Land, and a growing fooling of Imperialism that was being fostered on all hands. His Excellency would not express any opinion in regard to tho tactics^in the Transvaal war, but in regard to the outcome of it he adopts a reassuring tone. Ho does not place ihe greatest reliance on some of tho cablegrams that como to us from Capetown. In the initial stages of such an arduus and difficult campaign, ho says it is only to be expected that we must suffer occasional reverses, especially seeing that the enemy has enormous advantages in position in an extremely d'fficult country. Though there has been considerable loss of life, ho points out that thero has boon nothing absolutely jeopardising our position, and he looks forward before long, when our troops have been reinforced and have overcome tho present initial obstacles of the country, to seeing a very different state of things. No Englishman, he added, can have any doubt as to the final result. His Excellency expressed his delight that tho New Zealanders at the front had, according to a Bhort telegraphic, account received, dono so well in tho first brush with tho enemy. He felt confident that they, as well as our colonial troops, would prove worthy soldiers in any future operations ..they might bo called upon to undertake.
