CHAMBERLAIN'S FIRMNESS DISTASTEFUL TO THE BOERS.
HIS DECISION GREETED WITH HISSES AND GROANS.
Tho Hon. J. Chamberlain refused to discuss further tho Suzerainty, declaring that, apart from tho Franchise, there wero difficulties which were unsuitable for arbitration, and capable of adjustment by the Conference. When, this decision was read the Volksraad met it with hisses and groans. A great exodus continues from Johannesburg nnd other chief towns of the Transvaal.
Tho influential men of Pretoria havo invited Hoffmeyer to return there.
An enthusiastioo meeting at Capetown condemned Premier Schroinor'a attitude, and supported Sir A. Milncr. The meeting also thanked Australia and Canada for sympathy, aud scouted the idoa of neutrality.
