ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

The annual meeting of the Wanganui Acclimatisation Society was held on Saturday afternoon at Ohavnnnes' Hotel. Mr W, T. Owen presided, and there were also present — Messrs A. Allison, D. Boss, S. H. Drew, C. H, Chavannes, E. N. Liffiton, J. Pent, C. Smith, and Drs Earle and Connolly.

Annual Blport-— The report, read and adopted, stated that three cans of perch had been sent as a gift to the Auckland Society. The Faisan Snperbeor Beeves pheasant had been introduced. Two died almost immediately after arrival, and there are now alive, under the care of MiDrew, at the Museum grounds and at his house, three cocks and four hens. During the year tho society received from the Wellington Society a gift of some ten thousand young trout, which were liberated high up the river by Mr Hatrick free of cost to the society. Besides these trout there have been liberated a lot from the ponds in the Wanganui and Waito. tara Bivers. In consequence of the Bnilway Department resuming the occupation of tho land on which the present fish ponds are situated, Mr TJiifiton had offered a site foy use on his own ground, where the fish would be under his own immediate supervision. It had been arranged that wheii the ground was required by the Department the latter would moye the ponds and set them up free of cost to the society. The hope was expressed that, as the result of the river being protected above the Eailway Bridge from netting, in a few years there would be a, large increase of flounders in the river,

Election or OrFiociis — The following officers were eleoted for the ensuing year: President, Mr W. T.Owen; vice-president, Dr Earle; compiittee, Messrs Tilly, A. Allison, S. H. Draw, H. Harper, J. Peat, C. H. Chavannes, Chas Smith, D. Boss, G. W. Booth, Dr Connolly and J Wells; secretary and treasurer, Mr E. N. Liffiton.

Pheasants — It was decided to turn out the Beeves' pheasants in charge of Mr Boss at Kaiwailre.

Deer — The secretary was 1 instructed to arrange with the Wellington Society for an exchange of fallow d.eer for red deer,
