By a' special train excursion for school children- from Waikato to Auckland 1500 came down. They were Bhown the Free Library Art Gallery and granted free admission to the Auckland Art Society's Exhibition.
The Minister for Labour telegraphed to the Early Closing Association that the Ti&w Officer's opinion v adverse to tha. Mayor's notice inviting the shopkeepers to keep Wednesday half-holiday, and he h&d advised him if tho shopkeepers remain open on Saturday they will be actting contrary to the law. Ilia Association, have distributed 5000 copies of the Minister's telegram, and urged the people not to shop on Saturday at the shops openafter 1 o'clock.
The Newton shopkeepers opened this afternoon on the strength of Mayor Holland's proclamation. 'A band of music, perambulated the streets, playing appropriate music at the recovery of the lost Saturday afternoon trade.
