CONCERT AT FORDELL.

A most enjoyable concert in aid of the fund* of the local crioket club was given at Fordell last night. The local talent evidently moant to givo the town people "an innings," as the whole of tbe items wero contributed by visitors from Wanganui. Considering tbo showery naturo of the weather the attendance was excollent, and the club should realise a substantial addition to its exoboquer. Mr H. Sarjeant, J.P., was voted to tbo chair and made a few appropriate remarks, after whioh Mr Barrett played as an overture, " The War Maruh of tho Priests." Mr Raploy then gave, " Hannah; how's your ma," in his usual, humourous style. Miss Battle followed with "Love's Old Sweet Song,"und narrowly escaped an enoore, though the chairrqan had requested in his opening speosh that no encores should be demanded. The next item, however, was not to be denied, and Miss Kitchen's rondering of " Killarney " hud to be responded to. Then followed a duet by Miss Bnttlo and Mr Manning ; a comic song, well-received, by Mr Coakley, and a song by Mr Day. Mr Olampett then appeared and wan received with applause. His contribution " The Village Blacksmith" was as usual splendidly delivered and resulted in tbe inevitable encore. Mr Coakely oponeil tho second pact with a piano solo after which Mr Day gave the humorous song " I kneiv I must be dreaming," Miss Withers then sang "In old Madrid " showing considerable talent. Then followed songs by Mr Ellis and Mr Raploy. Miss Battlo received an encore for " No Sir " and a similar compliment was paid Mr Buxton fnr his comic ditty. Mr Olamcott theu eclipsed his previous effort in tho " Death of Nelson," ond gave as an oncore " The heart bowed down " Miss Kitchen then sang "My Pet," and Mr Coakloy brought tho conrorfc to a close with " Mormrity." Tho visitors woro afterwards entertained at supper and returned to town as much pleased with tho outing as we hope tbe Fordollitos were with their efforts to entertain them.
