POLICE REMOVALS.
Writing on this aubiecr, tho Post says — It is satisfactory to know that the now Minister in chargo of the department has lost no timo in putting the brako on Lieut.Colonel Hume's action, as Commissioner of Police, in recklessly removing members of tho police force from ono part of tho colony to tho other, without any advantage to tho public sorvico, but to tho great loss and injury of tho men removed. The transfers insisted on during the last few months havo beon simply scandalous, and have nearly ruined many of tho best men in tho force. Jlomee have been broken up, children taken away from profitable employment, and the most sorious hardship'? inflicted, simply at tlio whim of the Commissioner, without any possible mcrcaso in efficiency, although tlio cost of the transfers must havo been vory considerable. Mr Soddon lias already dono good sorvico by pulling tho Commissioner up. It is to bo regretted that Captain Russoll allowed him such a froo hand. Ho has been enabled to inflict groat injustice on desorving ollicors, and to create 11 very largo amount of wellgrounded dissatisfaction in tho polico forco.
