Turakina Hack Race Meeting. (By Our Special Reporter.) Tho annual n.ceting of tho TuraLina Jockey Club took place yesterday on tho now course— situated about a milo from tho township on tho property of G Y. Lothbridge, Esq , and wbb attended by about GOO spectators Tho now courso is an lmprovoinent on the old ono, and is oxactly a mile round from nost to post. Somo inconvenience was oxporionced, thero being no stand, but tins will be rectified by tho time tho next meeting takes place. All things considored, yesterday's meeting may bo pronounced a success— both from ft monetary and sporting point of viow. Tho course was very heavy aftor tho recent rains, and that accounts for tho slow limes registered in eomo of tho races. Mr J. Kelly had tlio publican's booth, and Messrs Gomoz and Tartalini tho refreshment booths, and all w oro kept busy. The usual giimos wero in full swing during tho day, and Constables Moon and Shearman had tlio "unpleasant" duty to perform oE running borne spielers in. »Ir J. Stevons acted as ]udgo in placo of Mr A. Barns, who, tluough pressure ot important busincs«, could not officiate. Mr S. Powell weildod the starter's flag in a manner that would have dono credit to tho votorau "Wai son." Tho finishes m all the races woro exceptionally good, and speaks well for tho manner in wlncb the horses wero brought together by tho handicapper, Mr J. 10 Ucmy. Mr John C. Morgan, the energotic secretary of tho Club, is tho right mm in tlio right place, und gin o general s'ltisfuolion ; in fact the stewards, ono and all worked ao haul, thai it would bo invidious to siuglo out any one for special praise. Thero is ono itom to which I would diroct tho stowards attention— by Ihe way I have noticed tho same omission nt other meotings lately — and that is that when tho flag drops, a bell should be rung, to announce that the horses have started, and that the totalisater must cease taking money for that special race. Light siiowers foil during tho day, but this did not Materially affect the racing. Messrs Hill and Poole worked tho totalißtttor, and paid out "quick and hvoly." Tn tho Hurdles Songstor had a soft tiling, and won as ho liked. Tho finish in tho Trial Hurdles was a grand one, and resulted in a dead heat between Nat and Rangiora, Tho owners decided to run off for tho stakes, and Nat won easily. Tho Flying was a good race, Worth winning by a length from Slip. The Jubilee Stakes came next and Slip, with Ahck McCormick up, won as Bhe liked. Barbara appropriated the Ngavminki Stakos, and then came the race ot the day, the T.J.C. Handicap, for which ten cried contont. After a mile and a quarter had been traversed it was seen that Tattler and Kimberloy wore fighting hard for prido of position, and tho struggle up tho straight was a splendid one; oxcitoment ran high as tho pair came locked together, but Teddy Barnes's old favorite was destined to go down boforo the son of Python, who passod tho poßt half a longth to tho good, paying tho handsomo dividond o£ £9 Is. The' Ladies' Bracelet was voted a soft thing for Oaklands, but Kimborley came with a wet sail in tho straight, and won by half a head from the son of The Clown. The Forced Handicap was tho last raco on tho card, and Javelin was made a warm favorite, but Fred Harrison had Viola in good nick, and sho romped home an easy winner. Threo cheers were given for Fred, and ho was carried shoulder high round tho saddling paddock. With this raco ended ono ot the most enjoyable gatherings I have attended for some time. We wore enabled yesterday to give somo of tho races por our pigeon express, and tho following arc tho concluding events : — Jubilee Stakes.
