Annual Meeting of Wanganui Rifles.

Thi 1 twentieth annual goneral meeting of the Wnnganui Riilea is to be held this evening at tho Heam Packot Hotel. In submitting their report tho Council state that the past twelvo months bavo been almost devoid of any events of importance, and etross is laid on tho apathy of mombors in attending drill. The balanco of the voto to tho rnngo had been called up, and as repairs effected were slightly in excess of funds at disposal of the Trustees, a further sum of £3 5* lias been asked for ,jnd voted by the Counci!,eontin£!ent on the other corps subscribing equal amounts. Tho shooting sra3on vuis opoued by tho usual triangular match, the result being a win tor ' Colour-Sergeant Rodwcll's team. Six Martini-Henri ri/les had been obtained for competition and won by Privates Graham, Laird, Anderson, Quin, Rodd\, and Kruao. In place of the usual money prizes, tho Council decided to give en Martinis thin season. At the last competition on 18th Dccsmbor tho rilles were won by Privates Clmiton, Wright, Pawson, Armstrong, Sergeant Armstrong, and Private Hooker, in the order named. Money pmes lor those members armed with Martini-Henna had boon keenly competed for. Compotitionß for Captain Borlase'a handsome cup had resulted at the sixth competition in bom» finally won by Pnvate Anderson. HeferGnee is made to the representation of tho Companj at the N Z R.A. meeting at Dunedin, a!»o to tho Company's Belt bin ing been again won for the second consecutive time by Private Anderson, a. feat unparalleled in the Company's annals. The finaucial position of tho Company is considered extremely satisfactory, the receipts amounting to £201 12s 4d, the expenditure having been met leaviug cash in Land £1 I7s 9d, fixed dppofsit £70, and balance in bank, £24 14s 2d. Tho assets altogether amount to £168 143 Sd, against which the liabilities only amount to £10.
