MR ORMOND AND CONFRERES.

This gentleman declines to face the musio as many anticipated, and retires from the representation of Napier. His absence from the arena will be a great blow to the landsharks, whom he faithfully represented in all weathers. He spoke seldom in the House, but was supposed to think all tho more, and by no means fulfilled the role of tho silent parrot. Ho hod only ono spoech, which he trotted out about once a session, and which did duty outside the House as well. Mr Ormond left the StoutYogel party because its principles were not elastic enough to suit him, his special abhorrence being Mr Ballance's Nativo land legislation, and land policy generally. He may be heard of jot in the Legislative Council, whore his power of resistance would be undisturbed by the "murmurs of the Bourg." His nomineo for the Napier seat is Mr Swan, Mayor of Napier, a brower and man ot popular manners, but unpopular sympathies, who will anßWor to tho puil of the wires. Tho Liberal candidate will be Mr Gilberd— not Mr Gannon — who will win tho election hands down. Mr Reardon is pushing Captain Russell hardforHawke's Bay, and with good prospects of success. Mr Smith is certain to be returned for Waipawa against a Mr Hunter, a member of the Hawko's Bay squatocracy, Hawke's Bay runs a vory good chance of returning a united Liberal vote.
