HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATION.
Tub Hoßpital administration cmnot bo described as other than a little lax ! Tho rebuff received by Wilks may not have been intended by the Hospital authorities, but it was the result of a system which could be considerably improved upon. At the meeting of the Wanganui County Council, Cr Robertson put tho following interrogatory :: — •' What means have the Hospital Board taken to inform the public of the formalities necessary to obtain admission!" To which the chairman of the Board (CrPeat),repliesas follows: "The motions bearing on the mstter were considered at ordinary meetingsof tho Hospital Board, and presumibly have been noticod in the press. No special means havo been taken by the Board." In other terms no means at all have been taken by the Boardi Even had the press published all the resolutions of the Board, it could not bo expected that people would remember them. It shows a want of appreciation on the part of the chairman of what is required, to have cases cf emergency at the mercy of some technicality which no one may know anything about. The rules for admission ought to be framed, and put up at every public place in tho district, Then if they were not complied with, the fault would not be with tho Hospital authorities. Further, it is a serious mistake to obtain for the Hospital the character of harshness* For people will then avoid it as they would the rack, believing that while it pretended to cure the body, It was regardless of the amount of montil torture it inSictcd, If suSerera like Wilks are turned hanhly from the door, they may also, like him, avoid the possibility of similar treatment.
