At tho City Schools Committee meeting a resolution was carried, That separate school accommodation bo provided at once, for the purpose of bringing into practical operation the compulsory olauses of the Muoation Act, and that a truant officer be employed,

The mission schooner Southern Cross reports all quiet at the various islands she visited. The whaling at Norfolk Island ia reported poor. She was in company with H.M.S. Diamond in Santa Cruz Islands. The Diamond was bound for Sydney, via Salomon Ishnd.

December 1. Tho Hist wool sale of the season was held to-day, when Messrs Hoadley & Co. and the IJoan and Mercantile Agenoy offered 1000 bales. Good priooa were realised, the attendance being large and the bidding brisk, News of the fall m the London market did not roach here until after the sales.
