CITY RIFLES.
The Second < la-s of the City Rifles fired their April competition for the officers trophies on Monday morning last, with the following rebiilt : —
A ichool teacher received the following note /rom the " ostensible " parent of one of his pupils:— "l hope as to my John you will flog him just as affn as you kin. Heaa bad boy— is John Altho I've been in the habit of teaching him miself, it seems to me he never will lam any thing- his spelling is ottrageously defishent. Wallop him well, ser, and you will receive my thanks. P.B.— What accounts for my son bein sich a bail ckolar is that he is my son by my wife's fust husband."
Taranaki papers complain that the return tickets allowed on the Wanganui .ection on Monday were not granted to the Taranaki section.
