OpctnaKK, May 28. A seriouft fire occurred at Prossor's Hotel th-8 morning. he fire appeared to originate in the b ,ck parlor, and qmckly spread over the whole of the buidiog. Only a. small quantity ot furniture waa saved. The heat from the fire was terrific. Stitt's store was saved by great exertion, and good supply of wet blankets. If the store caught, a large block of buildiDgs would have been destroyed. Prossers loss is he*vy, but £50 will cover Stitt's loss. A body of Constabulary from the fort worked well, and succeeded i.i saving Duffiill's shops, lmsforge'a barber's shop was also burnt ; loss £•20, uninsured. Great excitement prevailed during the fire. Several narrow escapes occurred to those engaged in rescuing goods.
