DANEBURY himself as a racehorse had few equals and no superior, for during his turf career ho always carried big weights and in his turn defeated all tho best horses of his day (including Templeton, Fishhook, Guy Fawkes, Maritana, Bribery, Foul Play, Ariel, Camballo, Luna, etc.), of which tho following performances is a proof ; — As a two-year-old ho won tho Canterbury Champagne Stakes, and ran socoiul for tho Railway Plate. As a tlnve-year-old, at the Canterbury Metropolitan Meeting, he won tho Railway Plate, weight-for-ago, half-ti-milo, beating Guy Fawkes, aud six others; time, soJsec. ; ran second for the Canterbury Cup, weight-for-age, 2i miles. Tho following day ho carried 71bB penalty, and won tho Christchurch Plate, weight-for-age, two miles, heating Templeton, and five others. He then journeyed to Auckland (and though he had lost a deal of Ilia form) ho won the Derby, ran second to I'erfuino in the R.C. Handicap, giving her 2yrs and lOlbs, and second to Ariel for the Auckland Cup.— Atiel, 4yrs. Bst fclba, Danebury, 3yrs, 78t 21bs. He returned to Dunedin, and ran second for the Derby, having behind him Bribery, Fallacy, Hippocampus, and several others. As a four-year-old, at the Canterbury Metropolital Meeting, carrying Bst lllbs, ran third in the C.J.C. Handicap, won by Mata, 6st 7lbs. Ariel, 6yrs, «st, second ; and second to Trump Card (his half brother, and tho beat three-year-olds o his year), in the C.C. Plate, two miles, (he was only beaten by a head after a desperate race), giving him l<)lbs ; time, 3min 4lsecs. At Waitaki he carried top weight, and won the Cup and Stakes. Tho following day he won the County Plate, weight-ior-age, and the J.C. Handicap under the crushing weight of 1(&$ 4lbs. AtGeraldine he carried 9st 4lbs and 9st 121bs, and won the Cup andJ.C. Handicap. At Ashburfcon he carried top weight (ost 7lbs), and won the Cup. Won the Wairarapa Stakes, threo miles, weight-for-age. As a five-year-old at tho Canterbury Metropolitan Meeting, carrying gst (top weight), won the Free Ha< dicap of ono mile, beating Foul Play, Camballo, Sinking Fund, Luna, etc., time Imin 46sec. Won the Railway Plate, weight-for-age, and Metropolitan Handicap, li miles, carrying Bst 4lbs, having behind him Fishhook, Ariel, Longlands, Natator, Bribery' aud others ; time 2min 4l£sec. As a six-year-old he did not race. As a seven-year-old, and while performing stud duties, he carried gst 121bs, and won the iyall's Bay Cup, and the Wairarapa J C. Handicap, 2 miles (by twenty lengths) ; time 3i»ln 2osec. From Danebury's brilliant performances it will be seen that lie could beat the Flyers for half a mile, as well as Btay long distances under big weights. Ab a stud horse he is a grand specimen of the powerful short-legged thoroughbred, of perfect temper and great constitution (two of the most essential quali ties of a sire), He has been four years nt the stud (the whole of the time in tho Wairarapa), where Jus stock are much admired for their substance and quality, and ore selling at very satisfactory prices. Bedouin is sire of Witiora, who performed successfully on this coast and Auckland (luring the season 1883-84 ; also, sire of Shamrock, who ran second for the big money in Hokitika, and won the Consolation same day, beating Lillipee and several others. Bedouin was a successful perfoimer on the turf, having run second for the Auckland Handicap, 1876, won by Ariel. Won the Consolation at the same meeting, beating The Don and several other good performers.
