HEADS RAILWAY COMPANY.
A meeting of the direcotrs of the Heads Railway Company was held at the office of the secretary (Mr C. S. Cross) this afternoon. There were present— Messors R. Pharazyn (chairman), H. Sarjeant, T. Thatcher, and G. Hutchison. Station Site. — The secretary read the correspondence with the Government in reference to the station site. The fir»t letter read was from the District Engineer, agreeing to the plans, as prepared by the engineer to the company. A later letter was then read from the District Engineer, stating that the site of the proposed station would have to be removed lower down the river. — The secretary here explained that after the receipt of this letter he interviewed Major Atkinson, and the officials in Wellington, and as the result of the consultation he wrote a letter to Major Atkinson stating that it was impossible to put the station lower down, as it would run into the Gasworks. No reply had been received to this communicatiou, and a telegram was sent on the 30th January stating that the Directors were still waiting , a reply. To this also no reply was received, And telegrams were despatched both on the
11th and on the 25th February. About the 2nd of this month Mr Biyce arrived in Wanganui, and copies of the letters sent to Wellington were placed in his hands. Mr Bryce rep ied that a recent communication had been sent to the directors. The secretary intimated that no reply, as stated in Mr Bryco's letter, had been received. It was pointed out that the locomotive was stored in Wellington, and was causing the company great loss.— lt was decided, as no reply had been received from the Government, not to bring the engine to WanganuL No action was taken, and the directors took up the consideration of other matters. Balance Shbet. — A diaoussion ,tqpk, place on the forniofthe balance-sheet Bhould take presentation at the meeting of shareholders 'to be held on the 20th instant. On the motion of Mr Hiitchison it was decided that the secretary prepare a roll of the shareholders with amounts paid and owing on different calls with interest to the 26th February. . ■ • ■ (Left sitting.)
Mr W. Woon informs us that the altered sittings of the District Court here are about to be gazetted. A session at Wanganui will not be held this month onaccount of Supreme Court Sittings. At the R.M. Court this afternoon the case of W. H. Crago v. J . C. D. Robertson was heard, the plaintiff proved he lent the defendant £10 on the 6th of February last, in Tauranga. He had asked Robertson for payment in Auckland and New Plymouth, judgment was given by the bench (Messrs E. N. Liffiton.and W. F. Russell) for amount claimed and costs 11s.
