Nov 5. In the Magistrate's Court to-day the Resident Magistrate held that money knowingly lent for billiards was recoverable. He said that playing billiards for money was gaming, but billiards was not an unlawful game,be:ng sanctioned by the Licensing Act. At the open air meeting of Orangemen the following resolutions were agreed to :—(1.): — (1.) Pledging themseives to render the Orange Institution a more powerful witness for God, and a defence against every intrigue to overthrow the British Protestant Constitution or separate from union with Great Britain. (2.) Attributiug anarchy, crimes, and demoralisation in South and West Ireland to the unconstitutional and revolutionary policy of the Irish Land League", (3.) Determining to maintain the present system of education and to oppose the Church of Rome's efforts to impair or upset it. (4.) Expressine; horror and indignation at the assassination of Lord Frederick Cavendish and Mr Bourke. (5.) Protesting against the Home Liberal Ministry's recent attexiipt to open diplomatic relations with Rome. W. Pritchie was found hanging to a tree at -toney Creek, Sefton on Saturday. It is supposed to be a case of suicide. The police to-night made a raid on the City Tattersalls, a place where it is alleged a totalisator is worked. They arrested fifteen persons who were in the room at the time. These were all bailed out. The police remain in possession of the premises, in which they found a registering apparatus.
