ELECTIONS FOR THE MAYORALTY.

The election was carried through quietly and with good feeling on both sides. The canvassers for Mr Watt were very busy bringing up votes from all quarters. Mr Nathan's friends were not idle and cabs were kept constantly busy. Judging from pledges received it was expected that the result would be close, and the expectations were realised when Mr Churton, the Returning Officer, read out the following figures :—: — Watt, W. H 141 Nathan, Henry 122 Both candidates briefly returned thanks. Mr Nathan has every reason to be proud of his position on the poll.
