(Before Thomas Baraber, Esq., Mayor, , and John Duthie, Esq., J.P.) Monday, Sept 15. . ASSAULT.

William John Dark was charged with assaulting his stepson, James Hastings. From the evidence of Const. Tregoning it appeared that he was called to defendant's house, outside which he foued defendant's children naked and crying. He was told that defendant had been beating his wife. Cautioned him in usual way, and was moving off when he began an assault on his stepson. Prisoner was fined 10s, or 48 hours' imprisonment. He paid the fine. ,

The following fines were inflicted for allowing horses and cattle to be at large on the public streets : — M. Quillinanj 3 horses, ids and coats 7s ; John McClenaghan, 2 cowa, 10s and costs 7s ; William Whelan, 1 horse, fined 59 and coats 7s ; M. Quillinan, 2 horses, 103 and costs 7s ; Daniel O'Hara, 3 horses and 2 cows, 16s and coats £2 2s ; Nicholas Brown, 1 horse, 5s and costs 7s ; David Lind, 1 horse, 5s and coats 7s ; W. H. Forder, 1 horse, 5s and costs 7s.
