FURTHER REPORT.

Grahamstown, Sept 15. The judgment of the Hauraki was a most elaborate one, justifying the crime from a Maori point of view, but showing that the peace of Hauraki would be at stake if the offenders did mt surrender to be tried by European law. A formal demand was made for the offenders and refused. The tribes then separated but yesterday, two of the leading chiefs, Tukino and Pinaha, talked the matter over and arrived at a conclusion to see that the men were given up to European law.

A pigeon message received at the Advertiser late last night says that with the exception of Pinaha the Ngatikahos left for their home at 7 o'clock on Saturday night.

Sunday, 5 p.m. People of Thames will be glad to learn ; that wise counsels have prevailed since yesterday,* and that within a week the Police Court will be graced with the presence of Messrs Buckley and Webster. Through the exertions of the Government old Tukino induced Pinaha to remain behind for a day or two for the purpose of talking the matter over privately. They were engaged all day in doing this and the result has been that the road obstructionists have persuaded Pinaha to allow Pak> ara and Epiha to be given over to justice lest the peace of the district should be disturbed, but it will be four or five days before the matter is finally settled. Waata Tipaau a young chief at the Miranda, and Tukukino will bring the culprits to justice.
