NATIVE DISTURBANCE. DECISION OF THE NATIVE COUNCIL.
Auckland, Sept 15.
The Hauraki Native Council have delivered their decision. It is to the effect that there must be no more shooting on penalty of offenders being handed over to the Supreme Court. The dispute between the Ngatikote and Ngatihako tribes, as to ownership of block of land on which the late outrage took place, is to be tried in the Supreme Court immediately after the delivery of this judgment. E. P. Puckey demanded tbe surrender of the would be assassins, but the Runanga declared they had not the power to hand them over. Nothing further can be done until fresh orders are received from the Native Minister. Major Withers and Sub-In-spector Kenny are still at Pareora, but they are powerless to act withont further instructions.
