Since I last wrote *I have received information that the Auckland Jockey Club has taken off the disqualification from Mr Owen Curran McGee. The sentence, it will be remembered, was passed in consequence of the alleged pulling cf a horae called Falcon. The race was won by the horse on running off after a dead heat, and the stakes were paid over to McGee, although . he was disqualified. The decision was one of the strangest" I ever heard of, and at the time, now nearly twelve months ago, was freely commented on by the New Zealand Press, the feeling being that a harsh visitation had been made.
The Waitotara- Waverley Club have selected energetic office bearers. The necessary improvements to the course are all but completed, the large dip to the main road having been filled in with earth.
The horse breeding season is again apiproaching, and X notice the columns of the Herald thus early bristle with preliminary announcements. Mr R, B, Mcßae has^ added to the long string of valuable animals which will be open for selection, by importing from down South to Patea the New Zealand bred horid Pariri. Puriri has performed successfully on the tnrf, and is a very handsome specimen of the thoroughbred, while his pedigree speaks volumes. On his sire's side may be traced Towton — Melbourne, Cinisfelli — Touchstone. On his dam's side Waimea, Sir Hercules, Cap-a-pie, Flora Mclvor, and Emigrant, grand, combinations. Waimea waa own bis ter to Mr Tait'a wonderful horse Cossack, who carried all before him in Australia, Zoe, winner of two Australian Champion races, Nutwith, well known in New Zealand as a sire of many racehorses ; half sister, \6 to the Marquis, winner of St Leger and Two Thousand, and only defeated by a head for the Derby ; the same year), sire of the Painter, was the dam ot Manuka, known aa New Zealand's Turf Champion, and now standing with. succes3 at a high figure in Australia ; Toi Toi, dam , of Kakapo, Toi, Puiriki, &c. ; Harakejfee, dam of Korari : Totara, sire : of Loh'g^ lands ; Renga, dam of Dundee ;" Papapa, said to be the grandest Colonial bred sire ! standing in New Zealand, and undoubtedly one of the best performers ; Waif mea, Kauri, Waieti, and Ramarama, all good performers. Porokawa, her last foal, was sold by Mr Redwood when a few days old for 500 guineas. The sire' of Wairaea, Sir Hercules, has done, more - for the Australian Colonies than any other horse, and Waimea herself has a greater number of successful racing descendants in New Zealand than any other' mare.
