A PLAIN STATEMENT.
TO THB EDITOB. ,■ .Sib, — Your "contemporary inserted in its issued of Monday last .a paragraph reflecting on ascertain "employer of labor "• who by the *' slow starvation process ■' had cprapelled his employee! to resign. .No names, were mentioned, but the public understood • that I was the employer referred to. I wrote 'to your contemporary asking the plain question - whether I was the person referred to or not. The reply is as remarkable for its shuffling as . for its cowardice. The Chronicle has neither the - courage >to admit that it referred to me.nor the cdnimon honesty to relieve me of the stigma that now rests upon me. The Chronicle' evidently believes .in stabbing a man's, reputation by innuendoes. If it did refer to me why not say so, or if it did not, then also say so straight. Its present shuffling position is a difgrapg. Yours, &o.' Pi.TK. CoLRBVr.,. August 30.
