The Daily News says General Todleben has sent the Porte an ultimatum, demanding the evacuation of Schumla, Varna, and Batoum, and the Russian occupation of Bojukdere. A serious riot occurred at Preston. Constantinople, May 18.
Notwithstanding the pacific tone of the St. Petersburg press, the Russians continue massing troops nearer here and along the Bosphorus, and towards Gallipoli. Their head quarters remain at Stefano.
St. Petersburg, May 19, Schouvaloff has started for London.
Semi-official journals here say that the movement of Russian troops is for sanitary reasons. There is no intention to occupy Constantinople.
