PRICES OF FOOD IN PARIS.

"We do not seem to be able to get at the truth as regards the position of Paris in reference to the supplies of food, but we may gather something from the prices of provisions which are transmitted bj a besieged resident, who writes :—I have hitherto laughed at the mention of "rats and mice, and such small deer." it seemed to be too good a joke that they should be eaten, and that we should ever come to cats and guinea pigs. But I have really met with people who have been devouring these animals. They had a salmis of rats for dinner, and speak of the dish as by no means bad. The rats are in-
