IMPORTANT ARRIVAL.
To the Editor of the Evening Herald.
. Wanganui, Feb. 21. Sir—ln the list of arrivals by the s.s. Wanganui from Wellington, by her last, trip, I notice the name of Mr Henry Anderson. As I have reason to feel a lively interest in that gentleman's wanderings, I should like to find out if his visit to Wanganui means a dividend to his patient creditors, or whether it is only for him to collect a few more
accounts to keep him agqihg for -a few weeks.. At the meeting of hkcreditow, he was authorised to collect the outstanding accounts, and, after deducting a liberal commission, pay the' same to the trustees. lam not aware that anyconsiderable sum has been paid to them, but the literary gentleman managed to do very welL either out of the commission or out of the principal. I hope the trustees will ask. him for a settlement while he is in Wanganui, and catch the ''Sentinel at his Post." By the way, c»ir, I heard a curious tale about his journey up, which, if true, shows that the proprietor of the Post had great doubts of their agent's capabilities of keeping cash. The energetic canvasser came up in the saloon of the steamer and on its arrival in Wanganui presented a steerage ticket, saying that he would bring the extra 10s on'his journey back: Perhaps the sanguine proprietors of the Post . considered that their agent would be rushed with eager would-be subscribers, and that yearly subscriptions would Bow in like P.B. in the mouth of the canvasser. Posters have been freely used, but I recollect seeing a like demonstration whenth» Sentinel was about to-watch over-the v people of Wanganui. The saw the light, and the intending sub- - scribers were fooled. What a recommendation for the Post? What an opportunity of receiving late items of important news; subscribe for the Poat and get your daily paper twice a week, when your news has all been anticipated by the wire. lam half inclined to think that the agency of the Post is but a blind to enable a few more accounts to be collected, and that Mr Hy. Anderson will again retire and rusticate at the Empire City.—l am, &c. An Indignant Creditor.
