RAGLAN-TAPIHANA'S MOVEMENTS.
Everything appears quiet in Kawhia. It is stated that the remnants of the Waikato tribes are all to leave their present locations in Kawhia, and take up their abodes at Te Kuiti, leaving the former place to the occupation ofthe iNgatimamapoto only. The departure of Tapihana and party from Kawhia is also stated to have been for no more formidable purpose than to fell bush for a waeranga, (bush cultivation) at Te Kuiti. The friendlies here have a story that the Hon. the Native Minister is now gathering a body of loyal chief's, whom he intends to send to Tawhiao to make a second request for the surrender of Todd's murderers. The chiefs here are not very hopeful of peace, and quote, in support of their opinions, ihe fact that we have not been visited by any Hauhaus lately. 'J his may, however, be accounted ior by fear lest reprisals should be made foe Todd's death. During last week the native hostelry here, formerly, known as Naylor's house, underwent repairs, being- re-shingled, &c. If it was worth doing- anything- at all to, it should be made respectable to look at, and to that condition some coats of paint are necessary. The farmers are harvesting- their crops, which | (especially than of oats) are quite satisfactory.—Own Correspondent D G. Cross.
