ARRIVAL OF THE VOLUNTEERS AT WHITE CLIFFS.

FINDING OF THE BODIES.

Herald Office, Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2 p.m

Mr Parris came in this morning and reports that the armed force arrived a1 the White Cliffs about dusk last evening.

The bodies of those murdered were found buried wMi the exception of the Rev Mr Whiteley's, whose body was lying outside the redoubt.

r] he murderers are supposed to be Youno* Phillips (half-caste), Te Wetere (who formerly owned the schooner Parnnini), Te Koko, and another native. The bodies are expected in this evening. • Many think that it is not the commpncement of a general rising. The full owing- notice has been issued by the Superintendent:— "Superintendent's Office, " New Plymouth, Feb. 17.

" No positive information has yet been obtained as to the natives who have committed the late murders at the White Cliffs, but there is every reason to suppose that it is the act of a small party "of the Ngatimaniapoto, and, I believe, does not indicate any sreneral rising- of the Kinoparty. Should any reason to doul>t this come to. my knowledge I shall make it known at once. Messengers ha.ye been sent in all directions', to iiscerfain whether the natives of other tribes have any connection with this outrage, but thpre is no reason whatever to think that such is the case. An armed party will occupy the Puke-a-rube Block. For the present, garrisons have been sta-

tioned'in the Tikorangi, Mataitawa, Tataraimirka, andu {pkato Block houses1. ; >V
