The German Beichstadfc, having met for the appointment of the President, hate re-elected the former occupant of that office, Dr Faunbach. Serious disturbances have taken place at Suez, arising out of the murder of a soldier by the Bedouins. His comrades demanded instant vengeance, and proceeded to ransack the town. It seems that a riot ensued, and a body of soldiers going to the Governor's residence attacked him with violence, and for some time the town was in a state of tumult; but eventually order was restored, and all is now quiet. Ellis, Lord Mayor of London, has issued circulars tu provincial mayors throughout the Kingdom, requesting their co-operation in the movement started for raising funds for the relief of those who have suffered heavily owing to the refusal of tenants in Ireland to pay rent and from the existing state of lawlessness in that country. The Socialist movement i 3 spreading in Austria, where many of the leaders expatriated from Germany have sought refuge. The Austrian authorities have also taken action against them, and the police ef Vienna have arrested eighteen prominent Socialists, who have been lodged in prison. Fogs of unusual severity have been experienced in the midland counties. Several cases of loss of life are reported of persons who missed their way, owing to the denseness of the atmosphere, and had fallen into canals and been drowned. In Queenstown harbor, Bay of Cork, a Cunard steamer ran into and sank the Helenslea, a vessel belonging to San Francisco. Some of the crew of the latter were drowned. Nineteen British sailors belonging to a vessel in the harbor of New Orleans, have been arrested for creating :t disturbance at a public meeting held in that city on the Irish question Senti ments were expressed by some of the speakers which the sailors forcibly resented, and a fight ensued. Eventually the seamen were arrested and imprisoned. Bepresentations have been made by the British Consul on the subject. Owing to the recent terrible catastrope at the King Theatre, all the theatres in Vienna have since been forsaken by the public, and the lessees have waited iu a deputation upon the Emperor, reqnesting that some action may be taken to dissipate the panic from the public mind, and pointing out that every precaution has been taken for the public safety. They ask that official assurance may be given of this fact. Disturbances have taken place in the tempt was made to overturn the GovernIsland of Hayti, West Indies. An atment of the Kepublic of Hayti, on the western portion of the Island, but after some encounters with the insurgents the authorities were enabled to suppress the revolution. The loss of life during the insurrection amounted to 150.
