LONDON. January 8. The Government propose to absolutely prohibit the sale of arms in the disturbed districts in Ireland. The Queen held a Council meeting at Osborne to discuss the subject. A very severe hurricane and tempest has been experienced in the greater part of Scotland, lasting 24 hours. Many casualities on sea and land are reported, among others the complete destruction of a lighthouse at Port Ellen, on the South Coast of Islay. The supply of fresh butter brought from Victoria in the refrigerating chamber of the steamer Europa, arrived in splendid condition. The National Bank of New Zealand declared a dividend of three per cent, for the past half-year. Tallow, good demand. Best mutton, 46s ; best beef, 41s. Babbit skins, la 7d per pound. January 10. The Cabinet has decided to adopt cloture system in the House of Commons whenever regarded by simple majority of the House. Search for arms in proclaimed dis tricts in Ireland is being vigorously prosecuted. At Cork, extensive seizure of rifles and other weapons has been made. A serious disaster has occurred at Shanville (sic), a small town in the State of Ohio.
