TUB NEW LINE OF REEFS AT INANGAHUA,
[times.] The report which wo published in our last issue relative to the opening up by Mr 11. Shiel, of a new reef in the neighborhood of JR-ainy Creek, has received the fullest confirmation since, and there is little room to doubt that a very valuable addition has been made to the quartz reeling industry of the Inangahua. From the prospector we learn that the new reef is situated to the westward of the lode recently discovered by Potter and party, and is distant rattier more than a mile from the Eaiuy Creek Company's Jcase. It was only on Wednesday last that the
discovery was made, and the prospector was engaged baring the reef at daylight on Thursday morning when he was surprised by the descent of a party of explorers who had been scouring the ranges all the preceding night in search of Potter's reef. This sudden aud wholly unexpected intrusion led to the prospector visiting Keefton rather hurriedly, aud thereby preventing him from doing much, work. The reef where exposed shows a welldefined body'of. stoue, of .froin *five to seven feet in thickness, and carries an excellent show of gold. were shown a sample of the stone, and it compares favorably in point of richness with any we have seen in'the district. The prospector returns to, the scene of the discovery' this .mornings for the purpose; .of systematically opening up the. reef, and as early a? practicable a trial crushing will be arranged for. - : Messrs Shiel aud 'M: Byrne are fortunate enough to hold the prospectiug claim between them, and the.former also holds No. L North, on Adam's line. Knox aud party have secured No. 1 North on Shiel's line, and David- Robertson and partyhave secured the first place ou the south end. The prospector has christened his claim the Atlas. >Tlie general belief is that the four reefs now opened there are on fourl distinct lines, but there is no doubt that further explorations will ! very shortly set all doubts on that head at rest. Leases have been taken up iu large numbers, in the locality, and it is not improbable that the Warden'will'have a good deal to do shortly in adjusting some of the boundary Hues. Many anxious visitors have been on the ground, aud interests have been freely bartered and otherwise disposed of. Iu the course of a week, or ten days some more detailed information .will be available, when we will lose no time in laying the facts before the public. The same paper says that ,it is the intention of Adams and party to pack lcwt of stone from their newly discovered reef at Rainy Creek to the Public Battery, for the 'purpose-of having it tested in the. Crushing Company's berdan." This will afford a fair test of the value of the discoyery, aricl should the result be as satisfactory as is expected, negotiations t'will-.'be -at once entered into with a Melbourne firm for the supply of crushing plant.
