REID AND CO. Westpokt Times Office, October 18, 18G9. Our Wellington correspondent his last letter says :—The Wellington Musical Society gave " Judas Maccabeus " on Thursday night last, as well as they could. But it was awfully heavy. I wished I had bad the same occupation the reporter at your recent grand ball bad during the evening. I would have looked diligently for any number of wooden pegs in any number of pretty girls' boots. I believe in my last I told you tbafc the Telegraph Inspector and men engaged in tbe work of construction of the line of telegraph to Wanganui were warned to leave off by men armed with guns, who threatened to shoot any who continued the work. Dr Eeatherston has been up there, and returned to town saying that all opposition was removed, and that the friendly chiefs in the neighborhood had promised that no further obstruction should be offered to the erection of tlie line.
