Melbotjbne.—The Argus of the 18th inst. reports : In the import markets, we note a very quiet feeling as prevailing throughout the day, and few transactions of importance have been reported. Breadstuffs show less excitement ; the rapidity with which prices have been run up seems to-day to hare acted as a deterrent on buyers, who have evinced less inclination to follow the market than for the last day or two. The sale of two 50-ton parcels at least have been reported, however, at JEIB and .£lB 10s, and there are many holders who require a much higher figure. Adelaide wheat ha been quitted at Bs. In feeding grains, much activity is maintained. Tiado parcels of maize have found buyers at 5s 3d to 5s 4Jd, and in quantity at 5s 2d, but that figure was offered and refused in the forenoon, and 5s 3d wa3 refused later on. New Zealand oats have not only been disposed of at 5s 3d, but we understand that business is pending at an advance on that rate. Sales of malting barleyhave come under our notice at 5s 3d.
