CHARLESTON.

Captain Palmer, of the Mavis, reports having left Port Cooper on the 10th instant. Had light northerly winds to the Knikouras. On the 11th a strong south-east breeze sprung up, and carried the schooner to Blind Bay. From the 12th to the 20th experienced strong westerly breezes, which obliged the schooner to dodge under the sand spit. On the 20th the wind ch.'inged to the north-west. Was becalmed for two days abreast of Mokihinui. On the 23rd a slant from the north-east brought her off this port, when she was brought in on the night's tide by the Cliarleston Surf Boat Company. Captain Johns, of the Lizzie, reports sailing from Taranaki on the 11th inst. Experienced S.W. winds to 3 p.m., when it shifted to S.E. Kan across Cook's Straits, and sighted Cape Farewell on the 14th, wind light and variable; at 11 a.m. the wind shifted to S.W. with a heavy sea. Stood off and on, wind increasing. Ran for the. sand spit, and hove to under Cape Farewell. Came to an anchor at Bushend on the 16th at 5 p.m. Found at anchor the schooner Mavis, bound for Charleston. Got under way on the 17th

with light variable winds. At 4 p.m., blowing very hard from the S.W., ran for the anchorage and anchored again at 7 p.m. On the 19th proceeded on her voyage with light and variable winds, working up to Cape Farewell. On the 20th had a strong breeze from the N.W. Sighted the Steeples on the 21st at 10 a.m. Fell calm, with a h ayy westerly roll, until 1 p.m. on the 22nd, when a light air from the westward carried her to the roadstead.
