MEMORIAL FROM COBDEN.
The following is a copy of a memorial which is said to have been prepared, if not extensively signed, at Cobden, for presentation to His Honor the Superintendent aud the Provincial Council of Nelson. We give it without emendation:— The memorial of the undersigned inhabitants of the G-rey District, Nel' son Province, humbly beg to lay before you the following statements : That your memorialists have learned with alarm and regret, that attempts are now being made by the districts of Westland and Westport, to annex this portion of the Province of Nelson, which annexation your memorialists most earnestly and thoroughly repudiate. That your memorialists, although almost ignored by your honorable House for the last two years, earnestly hope, that you have the requirements of the district laid before you by our Warden, and at the same timo taking into account the amount of revenue derived from this district, you will apportion an amount of such revenue to the carrying out of the necessary public works in the district. That your memorialists beg that immediate measures be taken to construct roads to the different mining districts, a considerable portion of our present roads having hitherto been made by private enterprise. That your memoralists hope that you ' will adhere to the resolution of making Cobden the terminus of the railway for the Brunner coal mine, and also grant such terms as will ensure a speedy lease of that most valuable mine. And your memorialists earnestly request that you will take into the consideration of your Honorable Council the fact that hitherto we have been 'virtually without representation in the Provincial Council, (the five West Coast members not having any interest in the Grey district) and grant us representation aceording to the population.
