Mr Fitzherbert met his constituents at the Lower Hutt last night. He gave an outline of his proceedings in England as the representative of the Colony. He stated that the suppression of the Native disturbances is the vital question of the day, and must be firmly dealt with ; that it is vain to petition the Imperial Government for troops; that the Colony must rely upon itself; and that the occupation of the confiscated lands is the duty of the Colony. He believes that, if the Colony does its duty, the Imperial guarantee to a loan can be obtained. No candidate has yet appeared to contest the Superintendency with Featherston. The nomination takes place on Tuesday. Chbistchukch, May 12. Colonel "Whitmore captured the Ahikereru Pah on the 6th inst. Six Hau-haus were killed, and all the women of the tribe captured. A great part of the men were absent lying in ambush for Colonel Whitmore. on the track they expected him to follow. Fortunately the force took another road, and thus serious loss, at least, avoided. Amongst the killed was the chief prophet of the TJriweras. Ahikereruis tea or twelve miles from Eangitaiki, near where Captain Maire attacked Te Kooti.
