The native fortification at Okutuku was attacked, at half-past eight o'clock on Saturday morning, by Colonel Whitffioro in command of a force consisting of three hundred Europeans and eighty Natives.
After a hard contest, the pah was on the point of being taken, when the enemy received strong reinforcements, and Colonel Whitmore and his force were obliged to withdraw. They retired in good order, carrying with them the wounded. The enemy followed our forces to within a short distauce of the Wereroa redoubt. The following is a list of the casualties on our side : Killed. —Major Hunter, Sergeant Kirwan, Constables Charles Lees, Gr. Satler, and three others whose names are incorrectly stated. Wounded.—G-. P. Cole, and Constables D. Dodson, Monk, Eastwood, Thompson, Westley, Williams, Cooksley, Kelly, Foot, M'Dowell, Vance, Keane. Missing. Constables Kennedy, Thompson, Poole, Norman, Savage, Nogus, Devon, Nichols, Path, Urquhart, Brown, Kennally.
