A Vatican City cable states that the Pope, accompanied by his physician, officials and secretaries, has taken up his residence in his summer palace.

The death occurred at Auckland of Mr P. L. Atkinson, youngest son of the late Mr and Mrs L. Atkinson, who were at one time residents of Newman.

The engagement is announced of Miss Mildred Rachel Booth, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Arthur Booth, “Ridgeview,” Kaitawa, to Mr Horace Edkin, eldest son of Mrs and the late Mr T. Edkin, of Kaiwarra. 'The death at the age of 78 of Mr Charles M. Berkeley, who was connected with J. C. Williamson, Ltd., for many years as an actor and advance agent, is reported in a Press Association message from Auckland. Deceased was well known in Masterton, where he had many friends. The death occurred in the Masterton Hospital yesterday, after a short illness, of Mr. Henry Charles Savage, J.P. The late Mr. Savage, who was 76 years of age, was born in Cheltenham, Gloucester, England and came to New Zealand 58 years ago. " He had been living for some years at Te Ore Ore, but previously had been for an extended period a resident of Eastbourne, Wellington. Mr. Savage is survived by four sons and one daughter, <to whom much sympathy will be extended in their bereavement. The sons are Messrs Charles Henry Savage, Wanganui; Cyril Savage, Stratford; Bert Savage and Harold Savage, Masterton. The daughter is Mrs. J. W. West, Te Ore Ore. The funeral took place this morning.,
