Sixteen thousand troops, have been transported by air and sea from Morocco in the last 10 days. The situation of Malaga is desperate, and food is scarce. Fighting continues south and east of Toledo.
HEAVY FIGHTING. (Received Wednesday, 10.0 a.m.) MADRID, Tuesday. Reports have been received of heavy fighting at Oviedo, where 15,000 miners, flinging bombs find dynamite sticks against the'rebels, are holding the centre of the town and the heights' dominating .the streets, into which they pour a withering fire from machine-gun nests. The insurgents claim that they repulsed the attack. REBEL ATTACK REPULSED. (Received Wednesday, 10.15 a.m.) MADRID, Tuesday. A three days’ attack by the insurgents 'on the key position of Navalperal, 40. miles north-west of Madrid, is reported to have been repulsed. REPORTS DENIED. (Received Wednesday, 10.15 a.m.) PARIS, Tuesday. The ‘ ‘ Echo de Paris ’ ’ Oaeeres correspondent interviewed General Franco, who described as madness the reports that the insurgents proposed to cede portions of Spanish territory to foreign countries in return for assistance.
