Conandale, who is suffering from a ricked muscle, showed slight improvement yesterday, but it is still doubtful whether he will start in the Caulfield Cup. The committee of the Auckland Racing Club has decided to make 7.0 the minimum weight for the Auckland Cup instead of 7.7, as previously announced. This action was taken in consequence of a pronouncement of the Minister of Internal Affairs that his recommendation in regard to the imposition of a 7.7 minimum in races should not apply this year to the New Zealand and Auckland cups. The ‘ ‘ Sydney Morning Herald, ’ ’ commenting on the Metropolitan Handicap, says: “Young Crusader recorded one of the most remarkable wins yet witnessed in the Metropolitan. Taking full advantage of his light weight, he had all the other runners struggling hard from the half-mile. Even his strongest supporters did not anticipate he would spreadeagle such a strong field.”
