STAY-IN STRIKE
MEN LEAVE MINE. FAILURE OF PIT LIGHTS. LONDON, Monday. The Blantyre stay-in strikers returned to the surface yesterday and were greeted with cheers by 5000 Sympathisers who walked to the pit gates and carried them home shoulder-high. The men stated that they were forced to surrender owing to the failure of the. pit lights. They maintained their spirits underground by singing to the accompaniment of a tincan band. One said: “Seven slices of bread is all I have had since Thursday. ’ ’
