TURF NOTES. The longer the journey the more will be seen of Wotan at the finish of his, races. Sir Charles Clifford’s Polazel tliiee-year-old Recollection is improving with racing, and will be more prominent on a roomy track.

A Sydney cable states: The “Sun” states that a. genuine offer of £4OOO lias been rejected for Mala. H. Russell, his owner-trainer, thinks that Mala is worth more. The local hurdler Dango broke a shoulder when schooling at Randwick yesterday and was destroyed.

The following horses are non-accept-ors for the first day of the Avondale meeting:—Cup: Musquil. Henderson Handicap: Mountain Breeze, Carlisle, and Bed Flame.

Deficit, the winner of the Wanganui Guineas, is a bay colt by Lackham from Passbook. Both he and his dam were bred by Mr W. Higgins, and she is by Paper Money from Password, by Martian—Secret Link, the Bezonian mare who was the dam of Silver Link. Deficit thus comes of a very good family, and although there is possibly more speed than stamina in his pedigree, Martian and Bezonian are sufficiently close up to suggest Deficit will at least run the Derby distance. His finishing run at the end of Saturday’s mile was very solid, and bar Brazen King he was travelling better than any of the others. Deficit as a two-year-old improved with a race, a feature which was in evidence last week, for his connections thought considerably more of his chance on Thursday than was the case on Saturday. Passbook cost Mr Higgins 1300 guineas, but was a racing failure. According to the stud book Deficit is her second foal, the first having been a filly by Whirlwind.
