LONG TOUR

BEDFORD GOLD FLEET.

The Bedford gold fleet, which is demonstrating in Masterton to-day and next week until Wednesday, has to date covered 6000 miles. Commencing the tour at Bluff the fleet lias since worked up the west coast of the North Island to Kaitaia, to Hawke’s Bay, across to Tailiapo and Taumarunui, then back through the Wairarapa, and leaves Masterton next week for Carterton and Wellington. British motor car manufacturers, who have been accused of neglecting their overseas markets, are to-day full alive to the potentialities of the Dominions as a source of good business and last year New Zealand was the leading Dominion of the British Empire in British motor vehicle importations. Biitish manufacturers are defuiitely out to hold this lead for New Zealand and one outstanding instance of this determination is provided by the golden fleet sent out by Vauxhall Motors, Ltd., of England, which is a complete range of Bedford trucks from Bcwt., light delivery, to the 4-ton model. All these vehicles are fitted with bodies built in New Zealand and may be seen touring through the town or at the showrooms of Harcombe Motors. In the various towns demonstrations are being given to public bodies and all transport Uoers, to show that Britain is certainly building trucks that for price, durability and modem appearance can compete with anything produced in other countries. As with all Bedford trucks in New Zealand, this fleet was assembled in Wellington and the bodies were built with New Zealand labour. The drivers, of course, are New Zealanders also, so that the enterprise of Britain is directly responsible for additional employment and prosperity in New ZeaI land.*
