STOCK MARKET
- EEILDING SALE. FELLDING, Friday. By dropping in price from 4s to 5s per head at the stock sale to-day, fat ewes approached nearer to genuine market values. Very heavy yardings helped to bring about the adjustment of values. Fat hoggets maintained recent high values, also fat wethers, of which a heavy offering was available. The store sheep pens were well stocked with hoggets, both ewe and wether selling at top values, with a strong tone right to the finish.
One feature of the sale was the heavy entry of store cattle from Poverty Bay, comprising chiefly P.A. and Hereford steers, which made excellent values, with a total clearance. Fat cattle prices were again on the ascending scale, with a, particularly keen demand for dairy breed fat cows and heifers. Prime cow beef was very firm at 27s 6d per 1001 b. Beef breed cows also made high rates, while light steers sold at 30s per 1001 b. The presence of Taranaki buyers assisted to maintain the values of dairy heifers and, cows, prices showing a slight advance for good quality sorts. Except for fat ewes, the whole sale was of a firm and optimistic nature. — (P.A.) JERSEY BULL SALE. At the national Jersey bull sale held at Hamilton on Wednesday by Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., there was a very strong demand for Jersey bulls, and the sale was the best held for some years. Bulls sold for 30 to 135gns., and 112 head averaged 424gns. The total realisation was approximately £SOOO. The Wairarapa breeder, Mr J. Jameson, of Tuhitarata, was most successful, winning the first and second prizes in a strong yearling class, and also the challenge cup for the best group of three yearling bulls. This breeder was first represented at this sale last year, when he won the group cup, and by repeating the performance again this year he has now won the cup outright. His three yearlings averaged 78 guineas, individual prices being as follows: —Tuhitarata Nobleman, 120gns. (second highest price at the sale); Tuhitarata Admiral, 41gns.; Tuhitarata Forward Heath, 72gns. Messrs F. V. Bryant and Sons, of Mangatainoka, also sold four yearling bulls at 42gns., 47gns., 37gns., and 38gns. CARTERTON SALE.
