FACTORY PROBLEMS.
At the annual meeting of the Masterton Co-operative Dairy Company, quite a number of matters came up which should engage the attention of the directors in an effort to bring about an improvement. These problems do not solely concern the Masterton Company. They have confronted other companies, which are finding considerable difficulty in _ arriving at a satisfactory solution. The question of picking up suppliers’ milk at a time that will allow it to be speedily carried to the factory, is a matter which requires urgent attention. There are two solutions to this—the provision of more lorries to ensure quicker delivery, and the erection at the roadside of facilities which will enable the cream to be kept reasonably cool until the carrier arrives to take it to the factory. The provision of milk cans to suppliers is another direction in which united action should be taken. There is no reason why a dairy company should supply cans for the cartage of milk or cream to its factory; other sections of farmers are required to find the receptacles for conveying their produce to market, and the dairy factory is the market of the dairy farmer. Furthermore, with many farmers, the cans would have a longer life through being better cared for, if they were the property of the individual, and not the company. The Masterton Company has always dealt with problems which have cropped up in a manner beneficial to the majority of suppliers, and can be relied on to handle any fresh difficulties with similar capability.
