AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP. WON BY MISS KAY. ADELAIDE, Wednesday. Miss Oliver .Kay (New Zealand) Avon the Avomen’s golf championship of Australia, defeating Mrs FullertonSmith (New Zealand) in the final today by 5 and 4. The Aveatlier Avas ideal. There Avas little betAveen the pair, but Miss Kay was steadier. Mrs Fullerton-Smith was not driving Avell, pulling and slicing, but she played wonderful recovery shots, hitting Avoods in the fainvay with great poAver. Apart, from a feAV loose shots, Miss Kay was steady all round. Her putting Avas deadly, and she seemed always to have the upper hand.

Although Miss, Kay lost the first hole Avhen she pulled her iron second, she Avon the second in a par 5. Mrs Ful-lerton-Smith pulled her drive into the rough at the third, but recovered Avonderfully and halved in 4. The next three holes were halved, but. Miss Kay took the seventh, her opponent being bunkered. The match Avas squared at the next, Miss Kay taking 5 after a sliced drive. Mrs Fullerton-Smith smothered her drive at the ninth, played two great Avoods and then pitched short. Miss Kay was bunkered Avith, her third, but exploded and sank a 25foot putt for a Avin in 5. Mrs Fullerton-Smith pulled her drive into the tiger country at the eighteenth and took six. Miss Kay was down in five after three putts, to stand 3 up at lunch.

In the afternoon Miss Kay won the first two holes Avith a birdie three and a par five, but lost the third, pulling her drive. A downhill putt tricked Mrsi Fullerton-Smith at the fourth, and she was five doAvn. Miss Kay took three putts at the fifth, but halved the hole. The sixth was halved, and the seventh put Miss Kay six up. Both were bunkered, but Miss Kay .Avas on in two and Mrs FulleTton-Smith in three. The eighth was halved and the ninth was Avon -by Mrs Fullerton-Smith, who sank a 20-footer for a five. Miss Kay was out in 42 and Mrs Fullerton-Smith in 44.

Mrs Fullerton-Smith fluffed a chip into a bunker at the tenth and was six down. The next tAvo Avere halved, making Miss Kay dormie six. Mrs Fuller-ton-Smith won the thirteenth, negotiating a half-stymie, and the fourteenth Avas halved, ending the match. In the Tasman Cup foursomes Miss Kay and Mrs Fullerton-Smith will meet Mrs Clements and Miss 1 Hutton, and Misses Ilonvell and) Fleming will meet Mesdames Negus and BrittenJdnes.
